Why Low Carb Diets Don’t Work

Subscribe: www.youtube.com/microwaveandblender pleasee!!
This is just my little spiel about some of the “dangers” of cutting down your carbs too much. Obviously there are also more pressing issues regarding low-carb diets, because carbs are so vital to our regular bodily functions, but if I ranted about those, you’d probably be bored to tears.
Note I: How much carbs you should be eating varies from person to person, but at least half of the daily calories you take in should be from carbs. So for the average person who takes in 2,000 calories per day, he or she should consume about 250 grams of carbohydrates.
Note II: Sorry about all the cuts. I live right by an airport, so there’s a lot of noise and I am easily distracted.

How Healthy Can a Quick Weight Loss Diet Be?
Friday, November 27th, 2009
Is there such a creature as the quick weight loss diet? I mean, sure there is or are in existence thousands of so called quick weight loss diets but how effective are they? How are they on the person’s health? How long does the weight loss last; how quickly does the diet wear off?
I have always been impressed with celebrities who give birth and within weeks are back to pre-baby shape. What quick weight loss diet do they use? Do they use any? I am further impressed with the actors who gain and lose weight to play particular roles. Robert Deniro, for example, gained 60 pounds to play Jake LaMotta as the boxer aged and got stagnant in the docudrama Raging Bull. Minnie Driver added twenty pounds for the fat friend role she played in Circle of Friends, as did Rene Zellweger for her Bridget Jones roles. And the record-breaking weight addition was done by Vincent D’Onofrio, who gained 60 pounds to play the incompetent, picked-on soldier in the opening scenes of Full Metal Jacket. What kind of quick weight loss diet did they use afterwards, or what kind of quick weight loss diet do the stars use to play emaciated characters—those with eating disorders or those who are depicting concentration camp or natural disaster victims?
And further, the overriding question, if you are not a movie stay raking in a couple mill to do so, is this: How healthy can a quick weight loss diet be? Or, in conjunction, Is it worth it? I am not a doctor or medical specialist of any kind, but I have—as an overweight child, teen, and adult—experimented, read, studied, envied, and been alarmed by the quick weight loss diets mentality and habit and practice. I have fainted, had heart palpitations, and even accidentally overdosed on OTC (over-the-counter) weight loss pills. I have also seen students and friends lose the shine of hair, lose hair, become anemic, develop severe headaches, and need to be intubated to gain nourishment after having played with the Russian Roulette of the quick weight loss diet world.
The celebrities who do so gain and lose weight with seeming ease, are not doing it as a lifetime tradition. They might even be under medical supervision when they do so. When not working on a role that requires their changing their natural weight, they do not, typically, do quick weight loss diets (the actors with eating disorders excluded, here). They use healthy food plans. They exercise. They see food as food and not as love. They diet, but they diet according to the definition of the word as a structured menu of healthy foods that include grains, dairy, protein, nuts, and fruits and vegetables, or reasonable equivalents. We are the ones who turn their food-eating methods into fad “quick weight loss dietsâ€!

Exercise and Losing Weight Fast
Friday, November 27th, 2009
Exercise is good for you right? Well too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Some people go overboard with exercise as they attempt to lose weight fast or keep weight off. Fad dieting and over exercising is double trouble.
An exercise program is usually encouraged with a weight loss program of any kind. The energy and good feelings we get from exercise come from a release of chemicals in the brain called endorphins. These endorphins are actually morphine like substance. You can become addicted to this feeling and compulsive with your exercise program.
Compulsive exercise has medical and psychological consequences. Too much exercise can damage your bones, joints, tendons, cartilage and ligaments. These are the things that keep our limbs moving. Too much exercise can put strain on the heart. Compulsive exercise can have many consequences leading to amenorrhea, bone density loss, osteoporosis and a full blown addiction. Over exercising can be a sign of an eating disorder.
People began to exercise to lose weight, relieve stress, or for their health in general. In a society that demands that we be thin and fit; people can set unrealistic goals for themselves. Sometimes people fixate on how they want to look.
People trying to lose weight fast, in frustration with dietary results, may turn to over exercising. If a person is restricting their intake drastically and over exercising, this can lead to exhaustion, weakness, dehydration muscle cramping or injury.
Exercise can become the only way a person can relieve stress. There are no universal guidelines that can tell us if your are exercising too much. Athletes in training may exercise a lot but they generally know how to take care of themselves. This is not an addictive sign.
There are ways to tell if you are dependent on exercise. Exercise addicts usually have low self esteem. Signs of exercise addiction or dependence are: going to great extremes to exercise, choosing to exercise alone instead of being with friends or family, exercise gets in the way of other obligations, exercising for hours at a time, and continuing to exercise after an injury.
The biggest component of exercise dependence is how it affects your mood. It will cause an exercise addict a great amount of stress and anxiety if they cannot exercise for the day. They may do something totally out of character so they can exercise. They may go out in unsafe weather conditions so they can exercise.
Imagine if you are not eating enough food and exercising too much. These people continue to exercise even when they do not feel good and the exercise does not feel good anymore. Compulsive exercise has the same addictive characteristics of any other addiction.
Exercise addicts may need clinical help. Evaluate your body image, is it realistic? Stop the addiction before it starts by recognizing the symptoms. For your health, exercise should be done in moderation and complement a well balanced diet. An adequate amount of exercise with a healthy diet plan can help you lose weight gradually, instead of loosing weight too fast and jeopardizing your health.

Why fad diets don’t work!
Friday, November 27th, 2009The answer is simple…fad diets are not natural.
Fad diet is the term that describes an array of diet approaches used to temporarily lose weight through unsafe and unrealistic methods. Quick fix programs do not work…although millions of dollars are spent each year. These programs offer a quick loss of weight but sadly the weight is gained right back because people return to their old eating habits and old life style.
There are many kinds of fad diets. Avoid those types of diets that recommend a certain nutrient, or combination of foods encouraging you to loss weight fast. Fad diets do not teach lifestyle habits for long-term weight management, they do not help people gain the will power to change a lifestyle with another.
Diets promoting a very low calorie system, approximately 1,000 to 1,500 calories per day and with no exercise program cause the body to become less efficient at burning fat, making it easier to store fat and regained weight each time a diet is stopped. In the long run this fad diets makes a person fatter instead of leaner. Ultimately these fad diets are not safe.
Only your weight and exercise level determines the number of calories that is right for your diet program and only healthy lifestyle habits will maintain long-term weight control. Healthy lifestyle habits include regular exercise, behavior modification, and a healthy, nutritious diet with a wide variety of foods.
People should be aware of their health problems before engaging in a diet program. All diets should include a warning to check with a specialist before trying a diet. Also most fad diets make no mention of physical activity, which is essential in the process of weight loss and some of these diets can actually harm one’s health.
The majority of fad diets involve a 10 day to 1 month period in which your diet is restricted to a select collection of bad-tasting, inconsistent health foods or recipes. The fads diet is generally advising you to completely avoided fats.
Due to water loss from this period, as a reaction to the starvation process, you will quickly lose weight. And, as you continue to starve, your body starts working in order to keep up with the energy needs. But you are still not burning fats and as you avoid fats in your diet, your body will try to preserve the fat that it has in its store. And if you continue your diet up to a month your body will burn its stored fats having no other alternative to stay alive.
After this period the dieter starts getting weaker and he is not able to feel well and perform its normal duties because it requires a lot more effort and time for the body to produce energy from fat rather than from muscle. At a certain time the dieter is back to his normal eating habit but it will take some time before the reconstruction of your muscle occurs and during this time, the body stores most of the food intake as excess fats. Therefore at the end of the reconstruction process, the dieter is back to his initial weight gaining back the weight he lost in the starvation process and little bit more.
A diet regards the proper nutrition for a normally developed human and it should contain vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates AND fats. An imbalanced process may cause starvation or excessive reserves of body fat.
By using fad diets in your weight loss process your body will experience both starvation and weight gain in a short amount of time.

Lose Weight With Fat Burning Foods
Friday, November 27th, 2009
Include fat burning foods in your daily diet and you can lose weight. You can even reach your goal of losing that extra 8 lbs in just two weeks. So what are fat burning foods? These fat burning foods contain calorie levels that are low enough that it requires more energy from the body when you eat and digest them. They are also known as negative calorie foods.
Celery is an example of a fat burning food. It takes energy from the body for digestion, because it does not contain enough calories to burn it. Cold water has a negative calorie. In fact, water has no calories at all but when you drink cold water, the body takes more energy to bring it up to body temperature. Everytime we drink a glass of cold water we burn up a little more calories and lose a little weight. But foods like this should be used wisely and should be taken in moderation.
Those who are anorexics are mostly inclined to eat negative calorie foods. Negative calorie foods, if taken in excess would result in starvation and nutritional deficiencies. The calories used to burn negative calorie foods will be taken from the body’s muscle mass, and this will be really dangerous to your health.
For a healthy way, you can take advanctage of fat burning foods by fasting or detox. You should start a detox diet after big holidays such as Christmas, New Year or Thanksgiving when you have eaten so many rich and fatty foods. A negative calorie diet with fat burning foods is a great way to clean out your system. Do it for three days or so, but make sure that you have your doctor’s approval.
Read some important points to remember when on a negative calorie detox diet:
1. Do not eat one type of food in huge quantities, most particularly fruits. There are fruits that contain bad substances for your body, so you should not eat them in excess. Such examples are grapefruit and pineapple which can cause damaging effect to your stomach lining. Other foods will cause diarrhea or burden your liver. You should eat different foods in small amounts.
Some examples of fat burning fruits are: Apples, Blueberries, Cantaloupes, Cranberries, Grapefruit, Papayas, Pineapples, Prunes, Raspberries, Strawberries and Tangerines.
2. Do not spend all your day eating. You will become bloated and feel sick. Make at least four or five salad meals every day, and let your digestive system rest in between.
3. Eat your food slowly and chew it thoroughly. You will bu more calories that way.
Some examples of fat burning vegetables are: Asparagus, Beets, Broccoli, Carrot, Cauliflower, Celery stalk, Celery root, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Endives, Garden cress, Green beans, Green cabbage, Lamb’s lettuce, Lettuce, Radishes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnips and Zucchini.
4. Detox diet and fasting may cause some uncomfortable symptoms like headaches, tiredness, depression and irritability. If the symptoms become worse, stop the detox diet and see your doctor immediately.
5. Return to a normal diet gradually when you are near the end of your negative calorie detox diet.
Garlic and onions are also examples of fat burning foods. If you want to lose 9 lbs in one week, then try the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet program, which is guaranteed to melt your stubborn fat easily. Visit the website now and start losing weight!

Why Those Quick Weight Loss Diets Are Destined To Fail
Thursday, November 26th, 2009
A lot of us have seen those quick weight loss diets. They are advertised on tv and on infomercials, and promise to magically melt off those pounds. Losing the weight fast is only a small part of the battle. You need to know why those quick weight loss diets are destined to fail for you, and how to make a plan to win.
In order to not only lose the weight, but keep it off, you need to make some changes. Permanent changes. This is what those quick weight loss diets don’t tell you. You don’t have to sacrifice all the foods you love and exercise 24/7, but you do need to make a plan and stick to it. If you continue to make progress, no matter how small, you will win at the weight loss game.
The first step is a goal. Figure out a realistic amount of weight you’d like to lose. Don’t shoot for the stars, just say to yourself you’d like to lose x pounds a week. 2-3 pounds a week is a good start if you’re stuck. Don’t compare yourself to others. Try taking a picture before you start, so you can see your progress along the way, which can be very encouraging.
Now, on to the work part, exercise. This is the tough hurdle for most people. Most of us have long days at work, and lots to do at home. It’s very hard to fit in time to exercise, and even easier to just pass on it for tonight. Unfortunately, the easy way doesn’t produce results. Even something as simple as doing 25 situps before going to bed is beneficial. Just remember, it doesn’t have to be hours of exercise to have an effect. Granted, 30 minutes or more of exercise a day is the target, but something is better than nothing. Once you get used to it, it becomes more natural and just another task like getting a shower.
Here’s a good tip to make exercise easier. Try setting up either an exercise bike or a treadmill in front of the tv, or within view of it. Now, put on a good movie. TV shows have commercials which tend to bring your focus back to exercise, instead of being a distraction for you. Quite often you’ll exercise a lot more than you planned, without even realizing it!
Now, the other change you need to make is your diet. I refer to diet as what you eat, not what you can’t eat, or are stuck eating. Just take a look at what you eat, and figure out what you can avoid or substitute for something with less calories. Calories are the name of the game. If you burn more calories than you take in, you lose weight. Simple equation. Exercise burns more calories, so you can either lose more weight, or burn off those couple of items you maybe should have avoided eating.
So, quick loss diets do work, but you need to make changes or the weight will come back, and then some. Eating better, and exercise, makes a huge difference. Just start small, and work you way up to where you want to be. Once you get the ball rolling, it definitely gets easier.
